SMC Celebrates 30 Years Of Excellence

Swinerton Management & Consulting (SMC) is proud to celebrate our 30th anniversary!

A note from Our Division Manager

It is my pleasure and honor to celebrate Swinerton Management & Consulting’s 30th Anniversary! In 1994, as Swinerton looked to diversity its business, the Management & Consulting group was formed to move “further upstream” in the design and construction process and focus on representing owners.

Led by Terry Bush, Swinerton Management & Consulting started in San Francisco and was subsequently joined by Don Davis in Los Angeles. Many of SMC’s initial clients included several homeowner’s associations, managing defect repairs, and performing loan monitoring assignments for banks and clients where Terry had relationships.

Myrna Wagner joined SMC in 1999 as the Director of Business Development and made inroads into new markets including K-12 education and public buildings. The most pivotal moment was the award of the San Mateo County Community College District Program Management/Construction Management assignment in 2002. This served as a launching point to diversify SMC’s business.

Some of our most significant project include the San Francisco Jewish Community Center, various projects at Ardenwood, Cypress Lawn Cemetery, projects at San Mateo County Community College District, Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, the College of Marin, West Valley-Mission Community College District, San Francisco Unified School District, and West Contra Costa Unified School District. Then there are the counties, such as Contra Costa and Alameda, the State of California, and over twenty cities throughout the Bay Area.

Additionally, we need to mention our private sector clients such as the Genentech Foundation, Roche, Weston Urban, Stapleton, the Hotel Del Coronado, California Northstate University, and the institutional investors that we represent across the Western states.

As a consulting practice, the strength of our business is our people and our clients. While our goal is to be our client’s expert in managing their design and construction program or project, it is the long-lasting and personal relationships developed within our Owner/Contractor PMCM teams that are the most precious. We have seen marriages, babies born, college graduations and more. It is the strength of these personal bonds that are permanent and feed our passion for representing owners.

Thank you to our team members – past and present – and to our many business partners on 30 years of success together. We look forward to building upon the past and moving SMC forward through the next decade and beyond.

Cheers,

Jeff Gee, AIA Vice President
