Project Details
The new 25,000-square-foot library sits on a 5-acre creekside site in the City of Pleasant Hill. The project is an important civic landmark and replaces a 60-year-old obsolete library. Community engagement and feedback was an important piece of the project, helping define a space for diverse programming. In working with the local community, Architect Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (BCJ) designed a library that “is all-electric and targeting net zero energy through the incorporation of passive and active strategies, including building orientation and massing, radiant heating and cooling, natural ventilation with night-flush operability, and a rooftop PV solar array.”
Swinerton Management & Consulting (SMC) provided project management construction management services to the city, which included coordination with three adjacent projects, new athletic fields, street and utility infrastructure upgrade, and housing on the site of the former library. The project was completed in 2022.
