Progress on the Solano Community College District’s (SCCD) new Library Learning Resource Center (LLRC) Building reaches a milestone as the teams have learned how to adapt under the current COVID-19 guidelines for construction projects. A scaled-down “topping out” was recognized on August 20th, 2020 – foregoing the usual “beam signing” that accompanies a topping out under a more “normal” work environment.
The topping out was accomplished despite the threat of potential evacuations due to the current fires in the surrounding communities. The project has safely moved forward while dealing with the seen and unseen potential health issues.
With the successful topping out the crews will continue for the next 4-5 weeks with welding as the racking and plumbing of the steel structure are completed. The 2nd level decking and roof decking will track right behind the welding with 2nd level slab-on-deck chasing.
Swinerton Management & Consulting (SMC) was selected as the Construction Manager for the new LLRC project at SCCD’s main campus in Fairfield, CA in 2019. The project consists of the construction of a new 59,252 GSF two-story building to replace the existing B100 Library Building. SMC continues to be a trusted partner of SCCD for over 10 years.
